Yesterday, we went testing with the DUT08 on an entirely new test track in Utrecht. The new test track was great, only because of the terrible weather a little bit dirty. The new fuel cut software, new camshaft sensor and wheelspeed sensors were tested in a very rainy setting, all went very well. On the right a picture for all you DUT08 guys to see how dirty she can be!
Today, a first and very important step in the assembly of the DUT09 was taken. Two employees of FARO Benelux (www.faro.com) came by with their advanced measurement equipment to assist the placing of various brackets. Determining the locations on the monocoque is quite difficult and should be performed accurately. In previous years this process would cost us about 3 weeks, thanks to the FARO arm it only took 1 day! More photos of the process can be found here.

Especially in times like these we are very thankful to all the sponsors of our team who despite the financial climate keep on supporting the team. A special thanks goes to our largest and most loyal sponsors, therefore we’ve decided to arrange a special sponsor day. On the sixth of March a delegation of these sponsors evaded the notorious Randstad traffic jams (and some didn’t, but arrived later on anyway).
The past week our team has produced our insert for the suspension geometry. More than half of the car is going to be monitored by using strain gages at the inserts. With these strain gages, we can read all the forces in our suspension. This allows us to improve our car set-up, understand our tyres better and further improve our design for next year’s car.
The strain gages were sponsored by and applied to our inserts at NLR, one of our key sponsors. We, again, want to thank NLR for this opportunity and the help and knowledge they supply. To the right you can see one of our inserts, complete with strain gauges.
Today was a very important day for a small group of lucky DUT Racers. 13 men left at half past 9, heading for Kart Centre Roosendaal where the drivers selection for 2009 would take place. Having shown some talent during the kart events, this day was the moment to prove yourself worthy of being a driver. The chief suspension Hein started the day with a talk.
