With FS Germany still fresh in our minds, the new team is highly motivated and already preparing for a whole new season of Formula Student. Starting by tidying up, the core team made a good start. Currently they are busy preparing the minor assignments, setting up the top level requrements and organising everything for a succesful year.
Last week we had our first activity. Together with our 01, 08 and 09 cars we were present in the universities central park (Mekelpark) during the OWee (the introduction week of the university). During the informationmarket, about 2300 students were having their lunch in the park, and we supplied them with some very nice engine sounds. Attracting a lot of interested students, we had a nice opportunity to spread the word of Formula Student among these new students.
The new team will have the challenge of outshining the DUT09 results:
- 1x Class 1 Runner-up (2nd place)
- 2x Engineering Design Award (1st place)
- 1x Most Fuel Efficient Car (1st place)
- 1x Cost Award (1st place)
- 1x Business Plan Presentation Award (3rd place)
- Airbus Lightweight Vehicle Award
- FISITA Award for Engineering Excellence
- Carroll Smith Memorial Shield for 1st place on Design Event
And the special CAT Racing Award for Best Supplier. Awarded by CAT Racing to show their gratitude towards DUT Racing for reparing their car in the “Delft Truck” at FSUK 2009.

Monday 12 o’clock. At the moment the camp site is almost cleaned up and we are preparing to leave to Delft with mixed feelings. Winners of the Engineering Design Event, Cost Event and the Most Fuel Efficient car, and also a third place on the Business Plan Presentation Event. We were on the way to the first place, and even Stuttgart was not able to stop us. The track times of the car were fantastic and our new drivers have proven themselves.
But then it happened, three rounds before the end of the Endurance race a glue layer in our drivetrain. We were devistated about it.
Nevertheless we can look back at a great year. We won both the Engineering Design events, in England and in Germany. This happened almost never before, it shows how much the car and our team is appreciated this year. The team spirit was great and we managed to establish our name again in the world.
I would like to thank all sponsors, friends, family and the team members of the past years for the support to get to this achievements. Not finishing the Endurance is a disappointment, but it is only a minor thing, we are very proud at everything we did.
The coming weeks will be about creating a new core team for the next year. I would like to wish them all luck in the name of the entire 09 team. I’m convinced that they are able to continue the achievements of the preceding years.
Now it is time to go home with 100 liters of diesel from Joop Verburg in the tank… and the event is finished.

Team Manager

We can’t wait to find out!

Being the first dynamics day, Saturday is the day you get to see how strong the teams really are. Everyone has driven their acceleration, skid pad and autocross, providing them with a good idea of how they are doing compared to the opposition. A day everyone looks forward to. However, the competition may still be incredibly tight, leaving the top teams unaware of who is in the best position to win. Or is their a clear favourite for the overall victory?

It was the day of judging, judging, presenting, testing, presenting for the second time, sitting at the award ceremony and preparing for another day of judging.
For the one’s who’ve been at Formula Student events before don’t have to read the rest of the newsletter anymore since everything you want to know is already stated in the previous sentence. This is because experienced Formula Students know what is going on during days like these and know what it means that you have to present for a second time and what it means that you have to prepare for another day of judging after the first award ceremony at FSG. But for the less, Formula Student experienced people we have another newsletter for you.

Silverstone is just two weeks away from the Formula Student Germany event here in Hockenheim and a second place in Silverstone is just one place away from a first place in Hockenheim. This time we brought even more team members, with even more tents and a even more elevated team spirit!
Every event is different then the other in hundreds of aspects. Where we were drowning in the rain in England, we are burning in the sun here in Germany. The same counts for the competitors, the Silverstone event hosted the most Formula Student teams ever which made the competition very diverse and unknown. Here in Germany we know more about the top 20 teams, then we know about pasta red sauce. But we know that these 20 teams, which are coming forth out a 78 competitorsfield from 18 different countries, are so fierce that each one of them could win. The competition is tense!
