Last weekend the DUT09 drove again for the first time after Formula Student Germany 2009. The drivers: the DUT09 core team members and Wim Thijs, our faculty advisor. Finally they could experience what a magnificent car they had built last year. On the small track, at a parking near Schiphol Airport, everyone got a chance to test their driving skills on a difficult, but fast, track. Our former team manager Stef was the first to drive, and he did very well. For quite a while he had the fastest time on track, but probably he also holds the record on cones after his cone frenzy. See picture.
After driving the car, without exception, they all got infected with the driver virus and couldn’t stop discussing perfect lines, brake points and so on. It was a very exiting day and a good closure of last year.

A small update on recent activities. First off all, this week all engineers got their parts assigned. The minor students were already busy with their part for about two weeks, but the regular engineers had to be patient, even though they were very eager to start. The past weeks the chiefs introduced the engineers into the world of Formula Student and the DUT Racing Team. They attended several meetings on the competition, the team, our design method (Systems Engineering), the rules and they had time to get to know eachother. Last Tuesday all team members had to do a rules test, after reading all 108 pages of the FSAE rules document.
For coming week we have planned the first team activity, unlimited spare-ribs during a breintje session. But also, the engineers will start working on their part.

And we’re off! Yesterday evening we had our official kick-off for the 2009-2010 year. After watching the tragic final meters of the DUT09 at Formula Student Germany almost a month ago, we were motivated to build a new and even better car. 60 enthusiastic students are very eager to build the DUT10, the tenth car in the DUT Racing car family.
After a presentation by our teammanager, Lennart Scherp, our faculty advisor and big support, Wim Thijs, motivated the new students even more by telling them about their great career opportunities and fantastic adventure they enter. But we are not interested in just talking, therefore the Technical Committee set up an introductionary workshop. All teammembers took a look at the previous cars and had to answer technical and non-technical questions. Finally, they had to present their findings and after all the talking and thinking, it was time for a beer or cola.
