Flowbench testing

January 24th, 2009

JosvanderPlas_nl-20090108-4975.jpgThe Yamaha WR450 engine of DUT Racing had a great start of the year 2009. Valuable information was obtained by the team concerning (mainly) the cylinder head, which was achieved to due an exclusive cooperation between DUT Racing and two High Schools.

Jos van der Plas, who is a student at Automotive engineering of the Hoge School Rotterdam, has been doing research on the engine in order to improve the existing simulation of the engine. To realise this, he travelled to Antwerp where he was helped in a kind and skilled way by people from the Automotive engineering education at the Karel de Grote-Hogeschool. The Karel de Grote-Hogeschool provided the team the opportunity to test their cylinder head on their sophisticated flow bench device, which revealed more information about the flow through the cylinder head.

With this new information, DUT Racing can significantly improve the computer simulation, which subsequently gives more opportunity to further tune the Yamaha WR450 engine of the team.
