Formula Student United Kingdom Friday: A day without breaks

July 13th, 2012

Friday was a very busy day for us at Silverstone. It was rushing on the paddock with scrutineering, Design Judging, Cost and Business Presentation. We managed to work together and perform like a team.

The day started with Design Judging at nine o’clock in the morning. In this section you must justify your design choices to different jury members from the auto industry. We had some explaining to do with our new concept, fortunately we have had positive feedback from the judges.

Then it was time for Cost, here Robert Crone, Jurrien Koeman and Andre Kil did the presentation together. Cost is about understanding the costs, production and sustainability of the car. The results of Cost follow tomorrow until then the competition keeps us in suspense.

Our team manager Max Wink and team member Tom Ben Yehuda had the Business Presentation at two o’clock in the afternoon with their clogs on. The clogs broke the ice and with the smooth presentation we can now only wait for the results. Tomorrow we will get the results, if we are in the Business Presentation finals a second open presentation will be done on Saturday.

After Cost and during Business Presentation we were working hard the car to pass the various tests of scrutineering. After our first rain test failed, we had to work very hard for the second rain test which we passed and try to pass as much test as possible. We are proud that we almost completed all parts of scrutineering.

The moment was finally there, the weighing. The official weight of the DUT12 is: 148 kg. This makes the DUT12 the lightest car of the competition.

Tomorrow moring we only have the brake test left of scrutineering. Afterward scrutineering the real hectic will start with acceleration, skidpad and sprint. We also might be in the Design Judging and Business Presentation Finals.
