Less friction, more efficient
Last week we have received the SKF bearings which will be used in the DUT12.
Because of extra motors and transmissions, a four wheel drive formula student car contains more bearings then a two wheel drive version. This in combination with the fact that this year’s team will design even more parts of the car by itself resulted in a heavy demand for the SKF customer service.
A good example is the bearing type used in our drive shafts. SKF had to open up a desk drawer in France to conform to our special request.
Thanks to the bearings delivered by SKF the DUT12 will perform even better on the race track. As an example: special low-friction bearings are to be used in our self- designed steering system to provide better feedback to the driver of the car. Next to that, the motors contain special hybrid bearings able to deliver much less friction than the standard bearings used. Because of this, the DUT12 is even more efficient and can reach a higher top speed.
SKF has the opinion that it should stimulate students as much as possible to turn their ideas into reality. The people of SKF supported us, providing knowledge in an early stage of the design process, combining the suspension and transmission in the front wheels.
SKF delivered our bearings fast so that we can assemble different parts of the car in time. We would like to thank SKF for their support and being one of the companies making it possible for us to design and produce the DUT12.
