Currently, the “Delft Truck” is being packed. We will take all the equipment the “Delft Truck” is renowned for, including turning and milling machines. Company visits and presentation at Teijin

June 22nd, 2010

skfDUT Racing team members are not only working on the DUT10 or their studies, but also on their future. To get a good idea of what they are going to do after their studies, they attend company visits to some of our sponsors. Earlier this year, SKF invited us for a company visit and one month ago, it was Teijin’s turn.

teijin1_0Teijin, sponsor since 2003, provides us with Twaron from which the crash nose is produced. Since the people from Teijin have a field of expertise on Twaron, they wanted to know all ins and outs of our crash nose. Therefore they invited us to give an extended presentation during one of their R&D days last week. Employees of Teijin were present in large numbers. They gave us new inputs for the design of our crash nose and took a closer look at our car.

Shakedown DUT10

May 18th, 2010

Last Sunday, May 16, the DUT10 drove its first shakedown! This was quite an achievement, as the DUT10 broke the record of being the earliest car to drive in DUT Racing history. The DUT10 drove a few laps without any problems, after which we called it a day due to the setting of the sun. This first spin marks the end of the assembly phase and shows that the integration of all of the different subsystems into one single car was completed successfully.

In other words: the testing phase has begun! The car will now be tested extensively. So far, we have only been able to test and verify separate components, such as the dampers. This year we have chosen for the new Öhlins TTX 25 FSAE dampers – the Cane Creek Double Barrel damper specially designed for use in the Formula Student competition. These dampers will now obviously be tested on the car, but they have already been tested on a damper dyno at JRZ Suspension to verify that they are in accordance with our specifications. The real testing programme of the DUT10 will commence today.

DUT10 engine works

May 10th, 2010

engine-dut10There has been much activity in and around the car the last couple of weeks. We are currently at the beginning of the fourth week of assembly, and that is clearly noticeable! The amount of coffee increases and so do the bad jokes. Last weekend, the engine of the DUT10 has been placed into the car. Before that, the front- and rear enginemount and the exhaust were aligned by using a dummy engine. That gave us some extra time to test and optimize the real engine outside the car.

Apart from the engine, the spring-damper system and suspension parts have been mounted to the car. The chassis engineers are currently finishing the seat plate and the firewall. Meanwhile, the drivetrain group is mounting the differential and the shifting system. The first meters for the DUT10 are getting closer!

Recruitment DUT11 team started

April 24th, 2010

img_7693Although the DUT10 is not finished yet, we have already started recruiting new students for the DUT11 team. Since the coming season will be very interesting for the Formula Student competition – will Formula Student Electric be a success or not? – recruitment for a new team is essential. To do so, we will be giving short pitches during lectures, distributing our very own DUT Collegeblok and demonstrating our car at various faculties at our university.

The recruitment campaign officially started last Friday, where we were present at 2 faculties to promote DUT Racing among many students during the so-called parents days. The active recruitment period ends at May 6th, when an “interesseborrel” will be given, where all interested students are welcome at our workshop. In the meantime, all team members are still working hard to get the DUT10 ready in time.

If you are interested in joining our team, leave your data here.

New style chassis, start assembly phase

April 20th, 2010

foto1Last week, our chassis has been away from our workshop to have its paintjob done. The core team has designed a new layout for the DUT10. In the last couple of years, the paintjob was inspired on “Delft Blue”, well known from the blue ceramic tiles. This year however, a new style has been chosen. The new layout has been achieved by good collaboration between Glasurit for the base paint layer and Custom Painting Holland for the special effects in the paintjob. Until our roll-out, on the first of June, the paintjob remains a secret.

foto3Now that the chassis is back at the workshop, the assembly of the car can really start. A tight schedule has been made in order to get the car ready half May. Before then, a lot of work has to be done by our engineers. The team members realize that fact. Yesterday, over 30 team members were present to work on the DUT10. This illustrates the level of motivation to complete our car in time!
