Week 18: Many hands make light work

May 7th, 2012

Week eighteen has been a week that seemed to pass more quickly than normal. The team worked hard on the assembly of the DUT12. And working hard makes the clock seem to tick faster.

Suspension Engineers Tim and Frans had the honour to assemble the first suspension part on the chassis of the DUT12; the steering system. It has been quite the job, because Chief Lukas was not quickly satisfied. It is absolutely unacceptable to have some space left between the gears of the steering system. Right he is, better to do it well, instead of a chance for abrasion.

It was on Thursday that all the parts of our gearbox casing have arrived, manufactured by Pretec Precisietechniek in Voorschoten. Chief Paul and Drivetrain Engineer Martijn put the gearbox together on Friday and Paul is more than satisfied with the result.

Furthermore, our main roll bar (main hoop) has been welded by Cees, the supervisor of the D: DREAM hall workshop. Cees spent his free Sunday to weld our main hoop so it can go to the painter this Monday. Thank you Cees!

The week ended with quite a lot of boxes from Driebergen. This year’s teamclothing had arrived and we are proud to announce that we cooperate with clothing brand McGregor for the second year in a row. We greatly value the quality of our team clothing, because this is what represents the unity of our team at the Formula Student competition, as well to the rest of the world. The coming week will again become a week of hard work, but this time, we will be wearing our own DUT12 team clothing!
